Volunteer

At Lakeview Lutheran church (LVLC), we love our community. Part of our mission is to do whatever we can to support those in need, especially right here in our own backyard. There are many ways in which individuals can share their energy towards this mission – both in and outside the church.

Volunteers Needed for The Crib

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for The Crib (an overnight emergency space located in the church), there is a training session on Tuesday, July 26th from 5-9pm. If you are a meal group, you do not need to attend. But if you want to be more involved and volunteer in any other capacity, you need to attend the training. Please contact Jen Rude at The Night Ministry if you plan to attend or need more information (jennette@thenightministry.org or 773-506-3122).

The Crib – A seasonal overnight youth space with The Night Ministry

The Night Ministry received funding from the city in January of 2011 to open a seasonal, overnight space for youth (ages 18-24) to have a warm, safe place to sleep during the winter (January – April). The space was hosted in the LVLC basement. The Night Ministry is currently working on funding to re-open the space again in the fall, to gear up for the winter months ahead. Guests in the space will enjoy healthy and hot meals provided by First Slice Cafe, LVLC volunteers and other community volunteers, showers, laundry, and more. Starting in the fall, The Crib will needs lots of volunteer support and hospitality:

  • They’ll need volunteers each night of the week to serve from 8pm-11pm. Volunteers will greet youth guest, share dinner, help with showers, bed set up, bed time snacks, and more.
  • They’ll need volunteers each morning during the meal to serve from 7am-10am. Volunteers will sing morning wake up songs help serve breakfast, and support youth putting away beds and cleaning up and help youth have a positive start to their day!

If you are interested in helping out, you will need to attend a training session through The Night Ministry. If interested, please contact Rev. Jen Rude (jennette@thenightministry.org or 773-506-3122).
