Lakeview Employment
Group (L.E.G.)
The Lakeview Employment Group is a charter program, founded in December 2008 by LVLC members, which offers support to community members who need help with employment-related goals and issues.
Our approach is to offer one-on-one consultation, with each party (a LVLC volunteer and the participating individual) making a commitment to meet on a weekly basis.
At Lake View Lutheran Church (LVLC), we love our community. Part of our mission is to do whatever we can to support those in need, especially right here in our own backyard. There are many ways in which individuals can share their energy towards this mission - both in and outside the church.
One of the ways is helping those who are homeless. LVLC has the privilege in partnering with NORTHSIDE HOUSING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES to house an interim housing facility in our church. We supplement NSHSS's services by providing a Book Club, Employment Program (L.E.G.) and meals throughout the week, year-round. We welcome anyone who has time and energy for this mission and have listed a few opportunities below. Cooking & Serving Dinners:
Any day of the week from 6:45-8:00 pm
Volunteers (ideally a group of 2-3 people) would come at 6:45, bringing their own groceries, cook dinner for the 25-30 guests and serve it around 7:45 p.m. There is a kitchen on-site and training is available before the first time. Clean up afterwards is handled by the interim housing guests. We're looking for a commitment of once a month but are open to people that want to just try it once first.
Lakeview Employment Group (L.E.G.):
1st and 3rd Thursdays 6:00-7:00 pm
Volunteers here would be matched up with parnters in their search for employment. The level of involvement would depend on the volunteer and partner. Usually a volunteer for this group would meet once a week with his/her match. No experience is required other than good listening skills and a desire to help those challenged in looking for employment.
